Reiki is an ancient healing system based on channeling spiritual energy.
The word Reiki means universal Life Force energy. It is defined as being that
power which acts and lives in all created matter.
Rei describes the universal, boundless aspect of this energy while ki is in
itself part of rei, being the vital life force energy which flows through all
living beings. It is the underlying creative intelligence of the universe that
organizes our world and everything in it.
Reiki was rediscovered in Japan in the nineteenth century and is taught through
initiation. It was developed by Dr. Mikao Usui, using symbols that he found
in ancient Mahayana Buddhist Sutras thousands of years old.
The original use of the Reiki symbols was for spiritual growth and
self empowerment. Dr. Usui was given the meaning of the symbols and how to
use them to heal. The system includes hands-on healing, mental and distance
or absentee treatment.
Reiki is not a belief system, therefore no mental preparation or direction
is needed to receive a treatment, only a desire to receive and accept the energy.
Treatments are hour-long sessions of hands-on healing as the Reiki practitioner
channels Reiki to the major energy centers and the auric field of the body.
Reiki works on the physical, emotional, mental and spirituals aspects of a
person.
It is a gentle non-invasive hands-on healing technique that promotes deep relaxation,
stress reduction and holistic healing by vitalizing the body and bringing the
human energy field into balance.
