Biography

Who is the creator of Transitions?

Edwina Brady is an accomplished artist and poet from the Southwest, who relocated to Boston, Massachusetts in 1988. Her artistic endeavors began in the 1970s when Edwina began painting in her native New Mexico. Utilizing various media — from acrylics to oil to pastels — Edwina portrays realism in her artwork with landscapes and depictions of animals, plant and flower life, and portraits. Her exceptional artwork has been exhibited in galleries and art shows in southeastern New Mexico, in Washington state and in New England.

In 1973, Edwina added poetry to her repertoire of artistic expression when she began writing free-verse poetry as an outlet to her own emotions and feelings as a single working mother living in the small town of Artesia, NM. Her poetry delves into a broad range of emotions — from sorrow and pain to joy and elation. Most readers can connect with her poetry and find meaning in each missive to apply to their own lives.

Edwina has a similar belief in the value of art as the noted writer Ayn Rand: "Art communicates a moral ideal and shows man his place in the universe," she says. "It is the barometer of his soul. The ultimate goal of art is to touch one's soul and set it on fire with the inspiration to fight for one's own values in the moral conflicts of one's own life."

Edwina's poetic expressions took a turn when she made an important transition with a move to New England in 1991 to start a new chapter in her life and re-evaluate her spirituality and beliefs. "My perceptions are colored by my experiences of love, life and death — by the changes I have encountered in my belief system," she says. "My beliefs are an amalgam of many ideologies. I take ideas and philosophies that resonate with me and incorporate them into my own belief system. I am in awe of the grandeur of the universe. To think that the source of 'all that is' has placed a spark of himself within each one of us — I want to show others the world that I now see."

In 1993, Edwina created a collection of her poems called "Reflections," which reflect her understanding of the journey of life. "In showing life as I see it, I hope to gain a response from the reader according to his or her own values and sense of life," she says. "I feel that I achieve this when my painting and writing stirs the emotions or creates a particular feeling in the viewer and reader."

Edwina brought her poetry to a whole new level when she recorded her debut CD Transitions, in 2001 to share her love of poetry with a wider audience. The CD compilation uses spoken-word performances of her poetry from her earliest work to her most recent creations.

"My goal with Transitions is to make the listener stop, think and examine their own sense of life," says Edwina. "I hope they can find some connection between my words and their own lives and draw upon my experiences to bring even just a glimmer of hope, peace or understanding into their own worlds."
