RIGHT: Text of the prayer inside
the entrance of Westminister Cathedral

Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor has said:

"These tragic events in New York and Washington have shocked us all. My thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the dead and injured.

I am asking that we remember in our prayers all those who have died, those who were injured, and those who are grieving, as well as those who have been left to cope with the aftermath."

While sitting in the sanctuary of Westminister Cathedral, I turned and looked toward the Chapel set aside for prayers for America. I saw a young lady dressed in black light a candle and go to the kneeling bench; she knelt to pray. Then an older man wearing a light colored shirt came in and knelt on the floor to pray. I wanted to take a picture but didn't want to intrude on them. The picture of the two of them kneeling there and praying for America is engraved on my mind.
