| The Golden Rose
I give to you a rose.
- As I pledge to you my growing affection.
- The petals of the rose curve with grace and beauty,
- The perfection of its creation, a wonder to behold.
The green of the leaves is the newness of learning
- to know each other.
- The thorns are the barriers we erect to protect our fears and
- vulnerability in a new relationship.
- The color gold reminds me of the golden lights that shine in your eyes.
- Those eyes whose dark depths shut out the rest of the world
- and hold only you and I.
- The interlocking of its petals makes me think of the closeness
- I feel even when you're not near.
- A closeness which touches yet does not suffocate and smother.
- Its opening into full bloom is our reaching out toward one another
- in growing friendship.
- The flame-shaped center is the spirit of our Lord around which
- our lives revolve.
- The circle of petals as they surround the flame-center is the
- completeness and oneness of our friendship.
- The curve of the petals away from the center is the reaching out to
- others in Christian love.
- Its beauty reflects the essence of our friendship --
- the sharing and caring.
- The grace of the rose signifies the respect and dignity
- due a true soulmate.
